CAF, CVEC, APL, CROUS, RIB…

Yes, it is true, French people are big fans of acronyms i.e. short versions of let’s say rather complex names.

CVEC is one of them that all international students will hear when starting studies in France. So what are we talking about?

What does this has to do with international students? Why does this come as one of the first steps for enrolling in higher education in France?

Let us enlighten you with 10 facts you need to know about the CVEC:

1. CVEC stands for Contribution à la vie étudiante et de campus

This could be translated to “Student life and campus contribution”. Every student wishing to enroll in initial training in a higher education institution in France must obtain, before registration, a certificate of payment of this “contribution”. This document will be requested by all schools or university prior to enrolling the student which means delivering any kind of school certificate or student card.

You could legitimately ask the question: what if I don't want to contribute? But unfortunately, this is not an option !

2. CVEC is mandatory

The Student life and campus contribution is used to create, consolidate and strengthen initiatives dedicated to student and campus life within the university (access to healthcare, social support, sport, arts and culture, improved reception conditions). It is thus intended to improve student life. Because it concerns the well-being of all, this tax concerns all students in France. The only exemptions are for refugee students or students on French government grants.

3. CVEC costs 100 euros

For improving students’ life, you’ll have to pay 100 euros. This amount can be paid online on CVEC’s website (with a credit card) or by cash. In that case, you will still have to connect on the website but you’ll have to pay in a tobacco shop and wait for the reception of an email with a certificate to download (up to 2 days).

4. CVEC is yearly based

This tax in only paid once a year. There is no other payment due for the next semester. However, it has to be paid every year of study in higher education.

5. CVEC has a website in English!

This is a promise, check it out for yourself by visiting this address. You’ll find there exactly the same content in English as the content in French. You will have to create an account on the MesServices.Etudiant website but rest assured, the entire process is offered in English.

And if, after all this information, you still need a helping hand to fulfil your “student duty” and pay your CVEC, don't wait - ask us for help!

The MediaSchool International team will be delighted to help you :)
